I was watching the news last night.....that is a big deal in my
house because typically I DON'T WATCH IT! I get tired of
all the doom and gloom in the world...when I am in my bow
shop all is good and the world can just stay OUT!

So...I am watching the news...Blah..Blah..Blah always talking
about the economy...yep it's getting better...nope, it is getting
worse...yep, housing market is up, nope housing market is
down...yep Dow Jones is up...nope down again today...Blah
Blah, Blah same old news...nothing ever changes!

My furbabies are nestled into my lap and then it dawns on me!

Minnie and Maggie for President! Yep, they can run this darn
country just as good if not better can't they??????? I mean, they
can't do any worse? So.... I put them in the "Woof-el Office",
I have proof.....I posted a picture for you! LOL

So.... you want to know the details? Simply email us a picture
of your pet wearing our dog bows. If your picture is selected,
your pet will be featured in the spotlight and you will get to
choose a free dog bow from our website with your next order!

So here are a few tips that may help with the selection of your
photo:

Clear non-blurry photos are best.

Close up photos so that we can see your baby and bow are
preferred.

Pet must be wearing one of our dog bows.

Do not decorate or add borders with any photo editing
software.

Many of you have sent pictures of your babies in to me over
the last year.... I will be making selections from some of
those wonderful photos, actually that is what inspired me
to offer the PDB Spotlight! :)

Note: I currently am needing pictures of pets in fall or
Christmas bows.

So... get those pictures sent in and get your free bows!!!

What are you feeding your Furbabies?

I struggle with this question almost every day! When I put
kibble into my furbabies bowls....I stress over the quality they
are really getting. I mean.... the big pet food recall of 2007
really, really scared me! And if you look on pet food recall
lists, there are continual updates on things being recalled!

When I saw the news about the recall... I think I was
feeding the girls Hills Science Diet, however I stopped
right away and started making my girls homemade
dishes :) I was not about to buy anymore processed food!
PEROID!!!

Here is one of the yum-o reciepes that I make for both of
my girls. It is pretty easy and each batch makes 8 quarts so
you can package and freeze so it is handy and on hand
when you need it.

Chicken 'N' Rice Stew

Ingredients
One 2-1/2-pound package chicken legs (about 6 legs)
2 quarts water, divided
1 cup rice
One 28-ounce can diced tomatoes in just (no salt added)
One 28-ounce can low sodium chicken broth
4 potatoes, peeled and chopped
4 carrots, peeled and chopped
1 cup macaroni
One 24-ounce package frozen peas

Directions
Place chicken legs in a baking dish and place in pre-heated
oven 375 degrees, roast 30 minutes. Then, turn chicken
legs and roast an additional 15-20 minutes. When slightly
cooled, remove meat from bones and set aside. Meanwhile,
add enough water to cover dripping in the baking dish; return
to oven for 10-15 minutes. Remove from oven. Using a
spoon, loosen any brown bits on the bottom or sides of pan.
Reserve this liquid (Discard Bones). This step can be
done a day ahead or early in the day.

Bring 2 cups water to boil over high heat in a 3-quart
saucepan. Add rice and reduce heat to medium low, cover
and cook for 15-20 minutes until all water has been
asorbed. Set Aside.

Meanwhile, place tomatoes with juice, remaining 6 cups
water and chicken broth in an 8-quart stockpot. Bring
to boil over high heat.

Add potatoes and carrots. Reduce heat to medium-high
and cook, stirring occasionally, for 10 minutes.

Add macaroni and cook, stirring frequently, for an additional
10 minutes.

Remove from heat and stir in the peas, cooked rice, cooked
chicken, and any reserved liquid.

Makes 8 quarts (Recipe may be doubled)

Storing & Serving Stew

*Allow stew to cool somewhat in the pan, then ladle into
1 quart freezer bags. Refrigerate overnight, preferably
in a single layer before placing in the freezer.
*Each 8-quart batch of stew will make enough for
four to eight weeks worth of dinners for one pet,
depending upon the size.
*To thaw, remove package from the freezer two or three
days ahead of time and place in the refrigerator. Or,
early in the day place package in water just up to but
not covering the rim. Refrigerate when thawed.

*Keep thawed stew in refrigerator at all times.

*At mealtime, portion the amount you want into a
dog bowl and microwave on high about 30-45
seconds for 1/2 cup. Mix with dry dog food
and serve.

*Use about one part stew to four parts dry dog food.

New diggs for Perfect Dog Bows!

Wow! It has been quite sometime since I have posted here on my
blog! For those of you that actually read this.....I apologize! It is
so hard for me to find the time to keep up with the Blogging world,
when you wear "all the hats" in a successful business, along with a
family and 5 grandchildren...life get's hectic and blog post don't
get done....

With that said.... I am going to do my very best to keep my
blog up-dated for you. Not sure what all you will see on here,
but just the mere fact of posting on a regular basis will keep me
satisfied for now. :)

For today's post, I would like to introduce 2 new things to you.
First, the BIG news! After many years of having a "vintage" style
look to the Perfect Dog Bows website, I have decided to completely
do something different with our look! Yep, if you go to the website,
you will see a new design! Do you see the new header? well.... that is
Me, Minnie and Maggie!! hee..hee.. I have a few house cleaning things to
change over yet... but the biggest share of the work has been done and
over the next few week the complete transformation will be final.

So...what is the secound announcement? Well, if you notice the picture
above, you will see new Collar Blooms! These new Bella blooms are so
pretty, nice for decorating your pet's collar or leash. I have several
different bloom styles along with some pretty colors. Each bloom is
made from Polar fleece so they are wonderfully soft.

How do you put a bloom onto a collar or leash? Easy! Each bloom is
handcrafted with a special "collar slider" on the back. All you have to
do is slip the collar or leash thru the slider and off you go on a walk,
in style!

Happy Valentine's Day!

I thought I would share some customer photo's with you today.

Melissa B. sent in a photo of her beautiful babies wearing our
bows! Aren't they darling?? I can tell you there is alot of
loves and licks in that household! LOL :)

My girls are in dire need of a clipping right now. I have been
holding off longer than usual this time because it has
been so darn cold here. My little Missy shivers and shakes
terribly when she gets a cut in the winter, even when I put
her little sweatshirt on.....she shakes!

I am working on the new Spring & Easter bows with the
new ribbon I recently received. I will be adding a ton
of new bows this coming week so be sure to "stalk" the

Sneak Peak Ribbon Preview

Hi Everyone!

Just take a look at all these cute ribbons I got in the other day!
They are just darling aren't they? I love the "bunny tail" ribbon
especially well!

These new ribbons are so colorful and I wanted to share these
patterns with you so you could look forward to some of the
new Spring designs you will be seeing on the website shortly!

So...what are your favorites? I really like them all and I have
more new styles on the way!

I am VERY ready for Spring to arrive here in Michigan! It has
been a Loooooooong winter and Minnie & Maggie are ready for
some warmer temperatures that is for sure! Unfortunately,
Puxatawney Phil saw his shadow (on a cloudy day) and thus
we will be having 6 more weeks of winter...but alas Spring
arrives in 7 weeks!

New! St. Patty & Mardi Gras Bows

Greetings Everyone!

First, let me apologize for not posting in a while. I have been darn busy
designing new bows, shopping for new ribbon and keeping up with all
your wonderful orders! You all have kept me very busy lately and
thus...my poor little blog has suffered a little bit! LOL

I thought I would post some of my new St. Patty and Mardi Gras
bows, they turned out really cute and I especially love the
colorful Mardi Gras ones! You can see my new bows HERE.

On another note, I just purchased a TON of new novelty ribbons
that you are simply going to LOVE, LOVE, LOVE! I am going to
have so much fun creating with all my new ribbons and I am hoping
they will be arriving next week sometime.

New! Sue & Shadow Bows

BRRRRRRR..... Baby, it's COLD outside!! It was a

balmy-6 here last night.....Yep, you heard me right!
Minnie &Maggie have hardly stepped foot outside,
just to go to the bathroom and let me tell you they hurry
their furry little butt's back in without hesitation! I haven't
been able to even make my bed the last few days because
THEY are in it! LOL. They look so comfy that I just
don't have the heart to kick em' out.... They're all cozy &
wrapped in the blankets with just their little faces are all
wrapped up in the blankets and peekingout...it is cute!

So.....what's new lately? How about the Sue & Shadow
bows? Now you might say... how the heck did you
come up with the name of a Sue & Shadow bow? LOL
Easy! One of my very wonderful and long time
customer's wanted me to make these cute little gems
for her baby Shadow. Shadow is a maltese and I have
several lovely pictures of him in my scrapbook!
Anywho .... I decided that since Sue & Shadow
requested this particular bow style....it would be fitting to
name the bows after them. Darling little set, currently
it is available in 9 colors and I will be adding to that
down the road. You can ORDER the news bows HERE!

I have been trying to get some more new bows
made and added to the site, bear with me cuz
the orders have been fast & furious lately...not
leaving me much time for new designs...but I
will get to more new stuff next week, hopefully.

So Glad We're Friends Card

Isn't this card adorable? I had such a great time making this over my
Christmas break! This little card is so colorful and the cute doggies
curled up in the chair are exactly what my Minnie & Maggie do in my
house! I dunno about your house, buy my girls have several places they
like to curl up in mine. Our bed is the first place if I leave my door open,
then they like our easy chair with a furry blanket and finally their favorite
place to curl up is in our laps!

Did you all make it thru Christmas and have a good holiday?
I think this Christmas was one of the best one's ever for us!
My sister who recently moved to Texas made a surprise visit
on Christmas day. It was so funny because I was not able to
get in touch with her for a few days and I started to get a bit
worried! (We talk everyday). Man...when she showed up, I
was so happy I was in tears.

This week I will be in the bow studio making you all some new
designs. I have some special goodies in store so be sure to check
out the website between this week and next! Shhhhh.....I can't
tell you! I will send out a newsletter when I get the new goodies
on the website.

Well.....did you get all your shopping done? Are your presents wrapped?? Are you ready for all the holiday festivities that will be-fall us over the next several days? My answer to that is Yes, Yes and Yes.....I am all done and ready to go!

I have to tell you all a funny little story that happend last night. We were all sitting in our family room by the Christmas tree and my granddaughter asked if she could open a small present....Now, she is 7 and very excited for Santa to come! With some hesitation I said...sure...you can open one small gift and I picked one to give to her to open. Happily she opened her small gift and we all started talking and totally forgot about the present. I went into the kitched and my hubby left to take a shower....when all of a sudden I heard a faint "squeeking" that I had not heard before. I didn't think anything of the noise and then I heard it again....I decided I better go and investigate. What do you think the noise was?? You will never believe it...but Maggie my black & white Shih Tzu had decided that since my granddaughter got to open a present....that she wanted to open one too! The funny part is that with all the presents under the tree, Maggie managed to find HER present and un-wrapped it!
There was little pieces of wrapping paper all over the floor....it was so darn funny!

I hope you all have a wonderful holiday and that Santa is good to everyone, especially all
the furbabies.

them out. Alot of stuff for the boy's this time....and I am glad about that.

It seems like all the ribbon is so girly...girly.... I am always thrilled when
I can find ribbon that has a boyish theme to it.

The ponies are simply darling! I have them made in two color combos....
The yellow submarines are too cute.....do you remember that song by
the Beetles? Yellow Submarine....."We all live in a yellow submarine,
a yellow submarine, a yellow submarine" that song was in my head
the ENTIRE time I made these little bows.

I just finished making the new Bonus Dog Bows!! They
are darn cute and will be available on the website by

Starting next week, I will be working on some new
bow designs I have been itching to do. I have some
darn cute ribbon that has been calling my name
for far too long!

is December 7th midnight. Orders placed by the
7th are guaranteed to be delivered in time for xmas

Santa Yorkie Card & Tags

How did your Thanksgiving go? Did you eat lot's of turkey & stuffing?
Did you shop yesterday on Black Friday? Well....I did! I was up and
out the door at 3 a.m. with a car full of my girl friends...we had a blast!

I wanted to share with you these two cute creations I made today.
Oh wait! Not bows you say??? Today, I just felt like being a bit
more creative on something different.....it does me good to fiddle
with the right side of my brain for a while...relaxing too!

I call these "Santa Yorkie". I made some gift tags and a cute
card set including the little lined envelopes complete with a
stamped paw. I found the cute little Yorkie stamp and just
knew I had to make something with it.

I decided to add them to my website cuz I would like kinda
silly giving these away this Christmas when I have two
Shih Tzu's! LOL

I hope you have a relaxing weekend....next up on my adjenda
will be to make some new BOWS with the new ribbons I got
a while back.....I will get those done this week sometime so be

Thanksgiving Schedule in Dog Bow Land

It is hard to believe that the Holiday's are now upon us!
Busy...busy...busy.... especially if you are the cook in
your house! Our home will be host to a hungry group
of 22 wonderful family members and of course my two
little furbabies! This week will be a busy one for my family.

How about your family? Will you be staying home or
traveling this year?

With this week being Thanksgiving week, I wanted to
let you all know that I will be out of the office on
Thursday November 27th and Friday November 28th.
My site will still be available for 24/7 online ordering,
but I will not be returning emails or shipping packages
during these two days.

I do not expect any shipping delays as I will still be
crafting your orders as usual. Actually, I am shipping
orders quite a few days ahead of the posted
schedule. (ya-who!)

My family and I have ALOT to be thankful for this year!
It has been a hard year...(with the passing of my dad) but
we have made it thru (almost) mostly un-scathed....

I want to let each and EVERY ONE of my customer's know
that I am truley THANKFUL for each of you! YOU have
kept Perfect Dog Bows in business since 1999....yep we will
be having our 10 year anniversary in November of 2009!

Happy Thursday Bloggers!

I had a great time today in design of this cutie organizer for all of
the spoiled pups! I think this turned out so cute, but I will not be
reproducing this anytime soon as the little dog took me much
longer to make than I had anticipated!

The weather here in Michigan has definately taken a turn for the
worse! It is nasty outside today with cold temperatures, wind and
lake effect snow! I think we are in for a cold and snowy winter for
sure.

Well....have a few more designs to finish today....keep watching

mail today... I am so excited to start designing with it!

The Scare of my Life today!

You know....I call my Shih Tzu's "Monsters" for a good reason!

Today, I left to run some errands, grocery shopping and all that jazz about noon. I had to
stop and pick up my niece from school about 3:00 pm and we headed for home. I pulled up
to my mail box to check the mail, and I said to my neice....oh, look at that little dog coming up
the street....the little dog was running toward my van and I watched as it got closer....then closer....and I said "OH MY GOD! it's MAGGIE!!!!" I could not believe what my eyes were seeing! I scooped her up and put her in my van and I told my neice....as we pulled into the
drive about 90 mph...when I stop this van you jump out and run in the house to make sure Minnie is in there! So, when then van stopped, we jumped out and ran for the house with Maggie in arm....I shoved open the door and ran up the stairs....and thank heaven there lay my little Minnie.....curled up on the couch none the wise to what was going on!

Now...to give you some perspective...my babies have a very large and nice play area that en-compases the back of our home, down our 40ft. deck and out into the yard surrounded by my bow studio. The girls have a doggie door going out of our home and then another door that they can enter if they want to come and visit me in my studio. The play yard has two gates to enter and exit. I NEVER let my babies run freely....I know that sounds bad, but several years ago I lost a Shih Tzu and I never want to have to go thru that agony again. In all these years...my babies have never "escaped" from their play area...never even tried. Leave it to my little monster Maggie...she managed to squeeze thru a small area between the gates on the south end of the play yard somehow.

Thankfully, we live on a dead end street in a very rural area...but geeze....how scary! You can bet "Papa" will be going over the play yard tomorrow with a fine tooth comb....it will be like "Fort Knox" if you know what I mean!

On another note....I am currently waiting on some more of the cutie pie ribbon like the recent ones that were added to my collection. How do you like the little piggies, snowmen and froggies that I recently added? I have submarines for the boys coming, cute Santa's, darling little ponyies and other fun goodies!

I hope you all have a great weekend, it is opening day of white tail deer season here starting tomorrow November 15th. I am dreading the start of the season due to all the shooting going on in the woods around our home....Maggie is scared to death of the noise the gun shots make and she literally starts jumping off the walls. I have to have the TV or radio on full blast to help drown out the sounds, poor little thing.

Ya know....some day's I amaze myself!

I swear my hands sometimes go faster than my mind if you
can grasp that!

What did I oops! on? Well.....I mixed up the Wednesday &
Friday giveaway prizes! Somehow I managed to send out
the packages with the 3/8" bows switched! I am so sorry,
BUT they are still cute bows and were FREE!

I got the most FANTASTIC birthday gift yesterday! I had to take
Maggie & Minnie to the vet for their shot updates....many of you do
not know that my little Maggie (the black & white Shih Tzu) has
suffered with a grade 3 heart murmer (on a scale from 1-5)
since she was born. Well.. my present from the vet was that
Maggie's murmer has significantly improved and is now only
a grade 1. How fantastic of a present is that?
